A group of Girl Scout Juniors from Saratoga, CA, started their journey to achieve the Bronze Award in February 2021. The Bronze Award is the highest award a Girl Scout Junior can achieve. Each girl spent more than 20 hours on a project that made a positive difference in their community to earn the award. Going to school so close to the Historic Saratoga Village and volunteering with the Saratoga Village Gardeners, the girls wanted a bookstore or a library in the village. They felt kids needed something to do while waiting to be seated in the restaurant or for food to be served, or just strolling around the Historic Saratoga Village. Hence, the girls came up with building a Little Free Library and donating it to the City. After talking with the Village Gardeners and City officials, the girls pitched the idea to Vice Mayor Tina Wallia and Director of Public works, Mr.John Cherbone. The City officials were delighted to hear the idea and showed a green light.
The Saratoga Chamber of Commerce graciously agreed to host a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on September 25th at 11 AM. Refreshments will be served later in front of the Chamber of Commerce and SCCL librarian storytime. Book-go-round will generously give attendees a coupon for a free book up to $1 value to be redeemed on September 25-26th, a book raffle, and loads of fun.
The Library is where kids can peruse and even take home free books; while strolling with their families in the Historic Saratoga Village. The Little Free Library will find its home on Big Basin Way near Fourth Street in the Historic Saratoga Village. Please join us to celebrate the momentous occasion. - Girl Scouts of Saratoga, Juniors
