New York’s Respect Sextet to Open Fourth Season of Harker Concert Series
San Jose, CA – The fourth season of the Harker Concert Series will open Nov. 16 at 8 p.m. with a performance by the New York City-based The Respect Sextet. Since their formation in 2001, the group has received wide recognition for their eclectic repertoire, blending original compositions, live improvisations, jazz standards and more into what Canada’s Exclaim! magazine called “a whirling collage.”
For more than a decade as a group, the band’s energy and musicianship have earned them a reputation for dynamic live performances, eliciting a “LOVE IT” rating from Newsweek and prompting The New York Times to remark, “The Respect Sextet stamps ambitious music with a smart-alecky affect, ranging broadly from the antic to the deadpan.”
The Respect Sextet’s latest recording, “Respect in Yule,” is a collection of holiday-themed songs interpreted via the band’s signature style and flare. Their previous album of original material, 2010’s “Farcical Built for Six,” was praised by All About Jazz for its “enigmatic compositions.”
This concert will take place at the Nichols Hall auditorium at The Harker School’s upper school campus, located at 500 Saratoga Ave. in San Jose. Tickets are $25 each and can be purchased at the Harker Concert Series website at http://www.harker.org/concertseries. Season tickets for all three of this season’s concerts are also available for $60 for a savings of $15. A pre-concert reception will start at 7 p.m. with complimentary soft drinks and hors d'oeuvres being served.
Started in 2010, the Harker Concert Series is part of The Harker School’s mission to bring engaging, entertaining and enlightening events to the greater Bay Area communities. For more information, please contact communications@harker.org.
