DESCRIPTION:Hakone Estate and Gardens invites you to attend Japanese Gardening Classes\n\n\n\nGardening class coordinator and chief instructor Peter Thomas Bowyer specializes in scenic creations for people who want to bring nature into their dwelling. He has designed and built gardens in California and Japan\; led volunteers pruning at Hakone Estate and Gardens and other public parks\; and interpreted natural landscapes throughout California.\n\n\n\n\n\nTo Register for a class:\n\nCall 510-658-4941\; or use webpage www.scenicgardencreations.com/contact\n\n\n\nDiscounts on class fees with advance payment: $35 per person single class\, $30 each for multiple classes/family per check\, $25 returning students\, $40 for returning student accompanying a new student guest. Mail checks 5 days in advance\, payable to instructor(s)\, or PayPal on the website. Regular class fees are $40 per person at the door.\n\n\n\nHands-on pruning practice\, if any\, shall be on materials we bring to classroom. Topics include: Human use\; site characteristics\; artistic expression\; historical architecture & garden styles\; indoor-outdoor relationships\; structures\; enclosure\; topography\; uses of stone\; water features\; plants\; design devices such as forced perspective\, diagonal and triangular movement\, borrowed scenery\, hide & reveal\, etc.\n\n\n\n\n\nJapanese Maple Aesthetics and Arboriculture\n\nWith Peter Bowyer\n\n\n\nSaturday\, November 16th\, 2 - 5 PM class and workshop held in the Cultural Exchange Center and gardens. See hands-on pruning policy above.\n\n\n\nAn introduction to the aesthetics\, horticulture\, and aesthetic pruning of Japanese Maples. Learn their growing environment\, physiology\, life cycle\, varieties\, design uses\, buying\, planting\, culture\, and problems. Learn to integrate aesthetics & arboriculture and solve problems in a holistic way.
